Sophie Vucurevich Obituary

Sophie (Blagojevich) Vucurevich passed into Jesus loving arms and reunited with Pete for eternity on February 5, 2026, after a beautiful 93-year life.  Graveside service will be held on March 7, 2026 at the Evergreen Cemetery on 8 Old Douglas Rd, Bisbee, AZ (in the Sebian section at the end of the entrance road).  A celebration of life with a traditional Serbian lunch will be served afterward at the Serbian Hall at 215 Park Ave, Bisbee, AZ.

Sophie is survived by her married sons Ted and Patty Vucurevich of Los Gatos, CA, and David and Pam Vucurevich of Franklin, TN; her daughters Sharon Fitzpatrick of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Karen and Mike Cripe of Burleson, TX.   Sophie so dearly loved her 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Sophie was born in Bisbee, AZ, in 1932, the third of 4 children, to Yugoslavian immigrant parents who made the family home in Bakersville.  She attended Greenway Elementary School and Bisbee High School.  She was a beautiful and popular young lady who enjoyed many activities, with her favorites being roller skating and softball.   Sophie married Peter Vucurevich, the love of her life, in 1955.   The couple was blessed with 4 beautiful children and remained in Bisbee until relocating to Silver City, NM in 1972.  Throughout the years, the family spent time together enjoying the great outdoors, fishing, and hunting, in the abundant public lands in AZ and NM.  Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, track, or cheerleading, Sophie and Pete were always there to support their children.  They placed a priority on education and always encouraged them to do what they were never able to do: obtain a college degree.

Sophie worked throughout her adult life, beginning with Arizona Bank, where she found incredible success in financial record-keeping as a loan officer.   After moving to Tyrone, NM, Sophie worked as an administrator for consulting geologist Howard Rothrock until his retirement in 1977.  She continued her career with Phelps Dodge Corporation for over 20 years before retiring in 1997 when she and Pete moved to Sierra Vista, AZ.   Sophie and Pete were very active members of the Pueblo del Sol Country Club, where she became a very good golfer, with a hole-in-one registered in her early 70s!  She loved playing golf in their couples group and hosting the grandchildren at the summer annual youth golf camp.

In her late years, Sophie enjoyed spending time with family members and friends in southern AZ whenever possible.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sophie was preceded in death by Pete, her loving husband of 67 years, brother George (Judo), and sisters Dunja and Helen.
