Roslyn (Henderson) Russell

Roslyn “Penny” Russell, 83, of Sierra Vista passed away on August 4, 2024. Penny was born
on July 30, 1941 in Marion, VA to Arthur & Rosa (Burleson) Henderson. She was raised in a
loving and close family with six brothers and sisters: Jacqueline (Jackie), Arthur (Sweetie),
Charles (Chop), Vivian (Honey), Steve & Kenny. Penny was a natural nurturer to her younger
siblings, Steve & Kenny, while their parents worked hard for the family. Penny was an amazing
& loving mother to Jay, Jan, & Ric. Her children were her heart. In addition to her children, she
has one grandson, Jae, whom she adored.

Penny embraced and loved many friendships throughout her life. Even up to her passing, she
was still connected with childhood friends. Every friend was near and dear to her heart.

She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, and fun competitive games with family and friends.
Penny was known to cook the best beans, any type, and her beans became a favorite dish for
all. Her backporch became a loved place to watch hummingbirds and have wonderful
conversations.

Penny was a beautiful lady. She lived life with such love and happiness in her heart. She will
be missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her son, James C. Russell Jr. ‘Jay’; sister Jacqueline Sharpe;
brothers Arthur and Charles Henderson.

Penny is survived by her daughter Janet Russell-Patillo (Gregory), son Ricardo Russell, and
grandson James C Russell III ‘Jae’ (Sarah), sister Vivian Rascon, brothers Steve Henderson
and Kenny Henderson (Alex). Also, many nieces and nephews, who were all her ‘favorite’.

I will miss your smiles, laughs, hugs and kisses. Every visit with one another we would embrace
and laugh as though we had been apart for years. I will carry your love in my heart forever -
your daughter, Janet.

Family and friends will be gathering for Penny’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 24,
2024. Penny’s home, 11 am - 4 pm.
