HEREFORD — Rolland Albert Dare, 99, went on to be with the Lord on June 21, 2017, at Banner University Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. Rolland was born in Peoria, Illinois to William Alexander and Cora May Dare. Rolland (Ron) grew up in Denver, Colorado, where he married Ruth Violet Dare on Dec. 31, 1941.
They lived in both Colorado and California before moving to Sierra Vista in 1979. Ron lived his life as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He is well-known for giving God the glory for the countless ways he shared the gospel of Jesus Christ. He shared God’s love everywhere he went, including local prisons, care centers, and churches.
Ron was strong, yet gentle, very generous, and always had a great joke to tell. Rolland was also a very dedicated officer in the U.S. Marines. He served in WWII in China, Japan, Korea, and Hawaii. Ron gave over twenty years of service, and retired in the US Marine Corps. as a sergeant major. He was employed by Martin Marietta from 1964 to 1974 as a procurement officer, working on the Titan I and II missiles.
Rolland is survived by his son, Gregory (Susan) Dare; four grandsons, Jonas (Amanda) Dare, Gabriel (Shilah) Dare, Caleb (Brandy) Dare, and Josiah Dare; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Violet Dare; his son, Rodger Lance Dare; his two brothers, William and Harry; and three sisters, Vera, Edith, and Ethel.
A memorial service will be held July 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Assembly of God, 102 N. Colombo Ave., Sierra Vista. There will be a military service with full honor guard at 1 p.m. at the Fort Huachuca Post Cemetery.
