Roger Holliday Obituary

Roger Lee Holliday, 76, of Bisbee, Arizona, known to many friends and family as "Doc", passed away at home on June 9, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. Doc was born in Cedar Bluffs, Kansas and lived most of his youth in North Platte, Nebraska.

He served in the Navy, worked as a roofer, as a masseuse, was Director at the Verhelst Recovery House for three years and operated a Safe Place for Recovery at his home in McNeal. He loved the AA Program. He was a wonderful mentor and friend to many. He volunteered at the VisionQuest Youth Program teaching adjudicated kids construction basics, life skills and introduced many program youth who struggled with alcoholism and addiction to the 12-step programs.

He and his wife, Deb met in 1995 and married in 1998. Together they lived and expanded their oasis in the desert in McNeal before moving into Bisbee three years ago. Doc started a straw bale house movement in the Sulphur Springs Valley, initially building a straw bale home for his mother in-law Jean on their property in McNeal, followed by helping numerous friends and neighbors to build the sustainable housing for themselves.

Doc is survived by his wife, Deb, children and stepchildren, Wendy, Brad, Toby (Casey) and Stephanie (Marty); grandchildren, Ashley (Nick), Brodie, Marcie, Skylar, Katie (Markail) and Nicole; great-grandchildren Jaiden, Alex, Luis and Zalaya.

The family invites friends to join them at the Gardens at Mile High, 901 Tombstone Canyon in Bisbee for a Celebration of Doc's Life Potluck on Sunday, July 9 at 1 p.m.

This will be an opportunity to share food, memories, stories, music and most of all celebrate the well lived and loved life of Doc.
