Robert Pitts Obituary

Robert E. “Bob” Pitts, 91 died on July 2, 2017. Born in Mississippi on Feb. 2, 1926, he also lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, and Arizona.

In high school, he earned his Eagle Scout badge. He went on to Vanderbilt University, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.

After two years in the Navy, during WWII, he married the love of his life, Martha Jane. They just celebrated 67 years on June 29. He worked at General Electric for 25 years where he created fusing metal and glass. He worked on the tubing for the Apollo Space Program. Then he was hired by Texas Instruments, where he invented plotter pens for computerized drawing boards.

He enjoyed family vacations camping in national parks. He also enjoyed the woods around the family home by taking the kids to find their annual Christmas trees and mistletoe. After accepting Christ as his personal Savior, he served the Lord as a deacon and on many committees in every church they were members of.

He loved serving behind the scenes by building, painting, and filling in wherever needed. His favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31. With retirement, he was able to devote more time to refinishing furniture and making frames and mattes for Jane’s many paintings. He was often sought after because of the quality of his work.

He is survived by a loving wife, Jane, and four children: Marty Bishop (Greg), Susie Holder (Roger), Mark (Nancy), Elizabeth Raker (David Koch). He also has nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, with twins on the way. We would like to thank our church, neighbors, Via Elegante, hospice, and friends and family for the support and prayers for Bob and Jane these few years.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Village Meadows Baptist Church building fund.

Service is Wednesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at VMBC.
