Richard C. “Dick” Starr, age 80 passed away on July 7, 2018 in Tucson. Born August 1, 1937 in Chambers, Nebraska to Robert and Caroline Starr.
He served in the US Army from 1957-1960 as a PFC 4 Sp4 earning the Good Conduct Medal and the Soldier of the Quarter Award. He worked 36 ½ years for Lucent/AT&T as an installer.
He traveled throughout the US installing equipment in many Telephone Offices. After retiring, he moved from Sun Valley, California to Palm Springs, California and lived there for seven years before moving to Sierra VIsta, Arizona in 2004.
He was very involved in the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 2065 and was a life member at the Elks Lodge, becoming the Lodge Ambassador and was past President of the Elks Auxiliary. He also volunteered many hours at the Sierra Vista Hospital Gift Shop and at antique stores in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Starr; and his beloved aunt Mary DeBryan. More inside He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Elvia) Starr, of Chula Vista, California, and Danny (Anne) Starr, of Council Bluff, Iowa; his life partner, D. Keith Hogan; and many family members and friends.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Services will be Wednesday, August 1, at Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel at 1p.m. with a memorial service at the Sierra Vista Elks Lodge on Saturday, August 4 at 2p.m., with refreshments to follow.
