Reverend Pete George Hawker - Pete was born in London, England, on December 23, 1928, to John Henry Hawker and Bessie Bond Minns, and went to Glory on September 27, 2021.
He married the love of his life, Florence Green, on April 27, 1954, and together they raised six children.
In his early years, Pete played the saxophone with the big bands all over England. He gigged with many famous personalities such as Ronnie Scott, Ron Bowden, and Ralph Dollimore.
After his salvation at the age of 23, he began working with A.A. Allen, who encouraged Pete and his family to immigrate to America.
Along with his wife, Florence, Pete ran a chapter of the 700 Club in Sierra Vista, started Lighthouse Ministries, founded the Church on the Go, and served as president of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. He is known throughout the community as a pastor who reached beyond the four walls of his own church to inspire and contribute to numerous churches all over the city.
In addition to the many hats he wore, he was also a homebuilder. Pete’s favorite quote was, “The Best is Yet to Come.” Although he had many amazing experiences in this life here on Earth, ultimately the best is definitely yet to come for him, as he is now dancing on the streets of gold in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie, his brothers, Ernie, Leslie, and Alan, by his loving wife, Florence, his daughter, Elizabeth Tufte, his grandson, Cyril Duarte, and his son-in-law, Henry Duarte.
He is survived by his children, Mary Ann (Vinus) Rector, Joanne Duarte, Peter (Aurelia) Hawker, Jr., John (Pati) Hawker, Paul (Stacy) Hawker, and son-in-law, Lance Tufte, and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 am, at the outdoor Ramada at Cochise Memory Gardens, located at 5590 E. Charleston Rd., Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635.
