John Mark Ruterman, son of John H Ruterman and Amanda C Hickox, passed away on October 17, 2018 at the age of 81. John was born in Douglas, Arizona, and was a resident of Sierra Vista for 49 years.
John worked in Camp Verde, Arizona as the Assistant Manager of Valley National Bank, and in Sierra Vista at First National Bank in 1969. He also worked for the Lumber Company on Carmichael and opened his “Brush And Pallet” art supply shop where he worked for three years.
He was an artist and belonged to Huachuca Art Association. John enjoyed painting and sold his paintings.
Later, he went into construction and helped build Golden Acres Park. He also worked at Patio Pools, then started “John’s Backhoe Service.” John later sold his company and started working as a heavy equipment operator at K&E Construction, Garcia Plumbing, and Mets Construction building the New Buena High School. He also worked at University of Arizona South as a maintenance man. John retired at 62 in 1998.
He also loved music, played the guitar, was a carpenter, plumber, and an all-around handyman. He helped with the arena for Sierra Vista and Huachuca Riding Clubs and supported his daughters in their Gymkhanas Sport Riding. He loved to fish and camp out.
John belonged to Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Sue Ruterman; daughters, Cathy Ruterman Ruiz, and Cari Ruterman Webb; granddaughters, Kerry Ruterman Shelton, Michelle Ruterman Ramirez, Jennifer Ruterman Heeter, Stephanie Ruterman Puglia, and Vanessa Ruterman; grandsons: Nicholas Ruterman, John Martin Ruterman, and Grant Allan Webb; and 15 great grandchildren.
He was a loving, caring, wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-great grandfather. All that knew him loved him. “The 59 years I had him were the most joyous of my life” - Joy Sue Ruterman.
Services will be held on November 5 at 1 p.m., Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1300 S Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.
