John P Oviatt passed away on August 2, 2018. Born August 23, 1926 in San Bernardino, California.
He graduated from Riverside Polly high school in 1945 and played with some big bands in his day: Jimmy Dorset, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, and Sandy & High Country.
On May 21,1947 John married Mary L. Oviatt. He had seven children: Mike, Terry, Scott, Kevin, Chris, Steve and Dolores; six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Colton, Elysia, Jud and step grandson David; six great-grandchildren; four in laws: Sal, Vinta, Gisa Abigail, Joy Raysa, and Clifton; and nieces Katy and Rosemary. He moved to Lone Pine California in 1968. He was a cook at many different Restaurant in town. He later became a Park Ranger at Diaz Lake, and in the 80's he work for the county as a cook for the senior center. He was there until retiring and went back to work until his 80's.
He lived in Costa Mesa from 2007-2018 where he played in five different bands: Irvine Valley College, Orange Coast College, Wind Ensemble, Jazz, and Bones West. He moved to Sierra Vista with his daughter and son in law, and found out he had stage four lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Oviatt, and Son, Scott Oviatt.
There will be a celebration of John’s life at later date in the OC and Lone Pine, California.
