SIERRA VISTA -- John “Chief” Edward Hemenway, 80, passed away peacefully, at his home, on March 21, 2017. He was born in Derby, Connecticut to William and Mary Harmon Hemenway, on Nov. 6, 1936.
John resided in Sierra Vista for the last 24 years. He was married to the love of his life, Marcella, for 33 years. John was a retired Navy veteran of 30 years where he earned several medals including the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, ARCOM, Navy Achievement with combat “V” and Navy Expedition Medal.
He was a longtime member of Pueblo del Sol Country Club, loved college basketball, managed multiple sports pools and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his sisters: Mary Sampiere of Florida, Veronica Lepri of Connecticut; brother: Timothy Hemenway of Connecticut; daughters: Sharon Yunker of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Marcella Willox of Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren: Stephanie LaTour of Las Vegas, Nevada and Adrea Solano of Manhattan, Kansas, Matthew Dominguez of Fort Collins, Colorado, Amanda Oakley of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ann Dominguez of Austin, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Hemenway, both parents, siblings William Hemenway and Catherine Belanger and nephew Philip Sampiere Jr.
A remembrance service for Chief, a true patriot, will be held at Pueblo del Sol Country Club on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m. He was loved and respected by all and will be greatly missed.
