Joan Owen passed away peacefully on New Years Day, 2025. She was a resident of the Sierra Vista Winterhaven community.
Her age was 72. She had heart failure for a number of years. She and her husband, Skip, had lived in Port Ludlow for fifteen years and six in Sequim, WA where they had a home built. They were married for forty-four years. They had owned and lived in a home in Santa Clara, San Jose, Livermore, Rio Del Mar, California, Sedona, Arizona and settled in Sierra Vista for their" geezer" years.
Joan grew up in Ventura, CA and enjoyed the beach scene. She ended up getting her teaching degree from Bethany Bible College in Scotts Valley, CA, an accredited college. She taught at a Christian elementary school for three years, worked at a gymnastic school, a tennis club, and then got into property management in San Jose, CA. It was a firm with massive management of apartment holdings of apartments in the area. She was the right hand person for the head of the organization, a Harvard graduate. After marriage she did similar work in Burlingame, CA.
Later in Washington state she worked as a substitute for receptionists and secretaries for Edward Jones financials in various towns. Besides this she was a volunteer for Hospice. Joan also did some traveling. At age eighteen she spent two and a half months living in Germany at a girlfriend's apartment visiting some sites. Later with her husband band, they spent a month in Italy and another in Greece. They also took various trips to Mexico.
Joan was a very kind and likable, smart person, besides being blessed with being physically attractive. She will be missed. She is survived by her husband, Skip; her sister, Barbara; niece Janna; and nephews, Brent and Jeremy.
