Joan Alice Carroll

July 6, 1939 to January 17, 2023

Joan A. Carroll, 83, formerly of the Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley, New Jersey, went peacefully to heaven on January 17, 2023, at home in Sierra Vista, Arizona surrounded by her beloved family.

Born in Richmond, Massachusetts in 1939 to Martin and Irene, Joan was youngest of her five siblings and spent her early years on the family’s Malnati Dairy farm.  While growing up she was active in 4H and assisted her sister and mother while her father and brothers worked the farm. After graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1957, she then attended and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1961.

After college, Joan went to work for American Airlines in New York City where she met her future husband John.  After several years in New York she travelled cross-country by car to California with close friend Glenda before returning to New York. After marrying John in 1965, they moved to New Jersey, eventually settling in River Edge where Mrs. Carroll became a homemaker.  Later on, she returned to work as an administrator for the Lipton Company and Prentice Hall Publishing.  Upon her husband’s retirement, they relocated to Toms River, New Jersey in 1995 to be near the beach and remain relatively close to family and friends. 

Joan was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, who will always be remembered for her independence, feisty personality and love of cats. She is survived by her son, Matthew (Kristien); grandson, James; brother Martin and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by husband John and siblings William, Francis, Joseph and Marjorie.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
