Jerry Martin Sears

On September 2, 2021,Jerry Martin Sears died at his home in Hereford, AZ, at 79 years of age. Jerry was born on April 21, 1942,in Hoisington, KS. He graduated from Hoisington High School in 1960 and then attended Kansas State University in Pittsburg, KS, earning his bachelor of science degree in automotive technology. He was recruited out of college by Ford Motor Company and worked in the Kansas City assembly plant for 30 years. Jerry married Marie Messer in 1962 and they had 3 children, Susan, Sharon, and Kevin. Jerry had a passion for motorsports. One of his first collaborations included winning the 1969 NHRA Top Fuel Junior Division Points Championship with his partners Cliff Ingolds and Richard Dicklish. Jerry went on to build stock car engines for the Woods/Campbell racing team. Jerry also enjoyed dirt biking in Missouri, Colorado and Arizona with his family and friends. Jerry married Dorothy "Dotty" Landis in 1996. They enjoyed traveling and Jerry’s motor sports interests. They settled in Hereford, AZ and Jerry became a deacon at Sierra Springs Church. Jerry was active in Boy Scouts of America throughout his life. He earned the rank of Life Scout, taking on the role of Scout Master and became a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Jerry is survived by his children, Susan Marie Sears Fish(Don)of Oak Harbor, OH; Sharon June Sears of Chicago, IL; stepson Tim Landis (Michelle) of Hereford; and his first wife, Marie A. Sears of Liberty, MO., and grandsons Benjamin Martin Sears (Leta) of Springfield, MO; Dustin Landis of Yuma, AZ; and Nicholas John Fish of Oak Harbor, OH. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Sears,parents Oliver Martin and Helen June Sears, brother John Michael Sears, and son Kevin Martin Sears. A memorial service for Jerry is scheduled for Sunday September 5 at Sierra Springs Church, following the worship service.
