Ira Glenn Obituary

Ira G. Glenn SFC  U S Army (Ret)

                                                  26 Oct 1948 – 20 Mar 2025

Ira was born 26 October 1948 in Willcox, AZ to Ira E and Velma (Allen) Glenn and peacefully passed away on 20 March 2025 at his home in Hereford, AZ.

Ira attended elementary and high school up to the 10th grade in Willcox at which time he left home for the ‘big’ city of Pheonix to make some money and start his adult life.  He was residing in Chandler, AZ when he got his “I Want You” letter from Uncle Sam.

After being drafted into the Army Ira went to basic training at Fort Polk, LA and then headed to Vietnam for his first tour of duty as a ‘grunt’ otherwise known - an infantryman.  His second tour of duty in Vietnam was spent as an Aircraft Turbine Mechanic working on helicopters.

After Vietnam and being stationed at Fort Campbell, KY Ira changed his MOS and attended training in Aurora, CO to become a Biomedical Equipment Repairman and was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, NM; Fort Huachuca, AZ; Gorgas Army Hospital, Panama; and Tobyhanna Army Depot, PA in that capacity.

During his Army career of 21 years plus years he received the Army Service Ribbon/Rifle M-16(expert) Badge/National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; (6) Bronze Star Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge/Army Commendation Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device/Air Medal (1-3); Combat Infantry Badge/Aircraft Badge/Overseas Service Bars (2); Campaign Ribbons to include Vietnam Counteroff Phase V/PhaseVI/TET 69 Counteroff/Vietnam Counteroff Cons I/Cons II.

Upon retiring from the Army Ira returned to Hereford, AZ and worked on Fort Huachuca at RW Bliss Army Hospital/Health Center as a Biomed Equipment Repairman and retired after 16 years of civil service. He received many awards and citations during his civil service career.

Ira’s hobbies included hunting deer and elk, and fishing which were a yearly event until he could no longer participate in those activities.  He also enjoyed cruising and visited Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean with his wife, brother and sister-in-law, and friends.

During Ira’s entire life he was a mechanic, no matter where he lived, he was always working on vehicles for his friends and people who became friends because of his work on their vehicles, boats, tractors, lawn mowers - whatever needed to be repaired.  It was his first love and after retiring he took up mechanic work full time at his home garage – always saying it was just a hobby.

When Ira married Joyce in 1979, they combined their small children and then fulfilled his dream of retiring from the military and settling in Arizona.

Left behind to mourn Ira’s passing is his wife Joyce of 45 years, son Edward (Nebraska), daughter Courtney (Scott) Eibling (Georgia), two granddaughters Autumn and Reagan Eibling, brother William (Karen) of Willcox, sister-in-law Linda Rust (Texas), brother-in-law Terry Skinner (Kansas) and several nieces and nephews.

Ira was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Christine, and brothers Ernest Rust and David Rust.

Special thanks to Heather and Ashley of Haven Hospice who took excellent care of Ira during his final months.

Per Ira’s wishes there will be no services.  In memory of Ira make a donation to your favorite Veteran organization.
