Mrs. Hallie B. Smith "Bet," 86, was called home on October 26, 2017 surrounded by her family. Hallie was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1931 to Joseph and Claudia Ballou. She was the eighth of ten children.
She was educated in the Pittsburgh public school system and graduated from Schenley High School.
She was married for 51 years to the late Samuel D. Smith in 1959. She worked civil service duty on Fort Huachuca, where she retired in 1992. She was an active member of Soka Gakkai International since 1967.
Hallie leaves behind two adoring sons, Duran B. Smith (Maria) and Garry D. Smith (Aileen); grandchildren, Darius J. Smith, Alexis N. Smith, Maya N. Moncrief; and a great granddaughter, Alaya E. Juvera; her brother, Larry Ballou; and her sisters, Naomi Ballou and Bernice Hamilton. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Ballou Jr., Dorothy Summers, Henry Ballou, Hazel Harrison, Katherine Goins, and Odessa Ballou.
Hallie was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. More than those wonderful roles, she was an amazing soul. She had a strong spiritual belief system and always had plenty of love for any and all that where in her presence. She always carried herself as a "Lady".
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Until we meet again sweet Hallie..... We love you!
