Gerald A. Rollins
Gerald A. Rollins 94, passed away quietly in his sleep June 11, 2025. Known as Dan-Dan to some, Jerry to others and Grumpy to more, he leaves a wife, Geraldine, three daughters,
Cindy Alleman and husband Chip, Teri Dixon and husband Jerry, and Valerie Wisecarver.
He also leaves 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Both parents, and his first wife Leatha Jane preceded him in death.
Gerald attended elementary school in Chicago and attended five colleges and universities before graduating from the University of Missouri, cum laude. He was a member of Mensa where he tested at genius level.
He entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and served as a Special Weapons Airman under the “care and feeding of atomic weapons” program until his departure in early 1955.
After going on a first blind date with Jane Vogel, his future first wife and mother to their 3 children, he told Jane that she would marry him, and so they were married on Aug. 7, 1955.
After military service, and a short tenure at a bank in Albuquerque he eventually became a civil servant working in the Data Processing field and they ultimately moved to Sierra Vista Arizona and Fort Huachuca. His job at Fort Huachuca entailed bringing ARPANET (the forerunner to the Internet), to the Army base. He retired from civil service in the early 1990’s. Following Jane’s passing in 2011, he married his 2nd love Geraldine, in December 2020 at the age of 90. Gerald and Gerry enjoyed caring for each other until his passing.
Gerald was a faithful member and prior Deacon of the Sierra Vista Church of Christ. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and avid sports “aficionado” his entire life. He co-announced AAA Albuquerque Dodgers radio baseball games for one season along with assisted in high school football and basketball championship games.
There will be a celebration of his life at Vista View Resort Club House in Sierra Vista Arizona, on June 27, 2025 from 10 am to 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his name to his favorite charities; Ronald McDonalds House at 2230 E.
