Morgan Sr., Derek Anthony, "Bibby", age 59, born April 8, 1962 in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Derek was a 1980 graduate of Deep Creek High School, Chesapeake, Virginia, and joined the United States Army on August 5, 1980. He served his country for eighteen years through four reenlistments, retiring on June 30, 1998 as Sergeant First Class, E-7. During his military career his occupational specialty was in Signal Communications; he was awarded a Bronze Star, a Kuwait Liberation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and numerous Army Professional Ribbons. Derek also served as a Civil Servant for the Department of Defense, the Postal Service, and the International Boundary and Water Commission predominately as a Budget Analyst and Letter Carrier for over seventeen years, retiring on June 30, 2021.
Derek had many talents, noted as an artist, an athlete, and a military leader.
Derek was a kind man, offering help to anyone who was in need, his many friends attest to the personal support and attention he bestowed on them.
To his family Derek is a Beloved Hero, to all in which he has made proud, his father Walter H. Chapman Sr. (Beloved Hero), his mother, Frances M. Chapman, his Uncles Dennis Morgan, and Joseph Morgan, his Aunts Marcelia Posey, and Denise Morgan; his brothers Devon Morgan, Andrew Chapman, and Walter H. Chapman Jr.; his children Jeff Morgan, Derek Morgan Jr., and Alexis Vasquez-Morgan; and his nine grandchildren.
On Friday, December 10, 2021, the family will hold a visitation from 1-2 p.m. followed by a memorial service and presentation of military funeral honors at Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary, 5515 South Highway 92, Sierra Vista, Arizona, 85650.
On Monday, December 13, 2021, Derek will be laid to rest at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635. Posted online on December 08, 2021 Published in El Paso Times
