Dean Ivan Oakes 83, of Hereford, AZ passed away on November, 27 2022 after a long illness. Dean was born on April 9, 1939 to Alvin R. Oakes and Ruth Shoemaker in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Dean proudly served his country in the United States ARMY, retiring as a Major in 1985. Dean and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling between Pennsylvania and Arizona doing gun shows as he was an avid gunsmith and gun dealer.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Ruth, his brothers Charles and Dale.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary, his children, Amy (Fred) Bertoldo, Charlie (Sherry) Oakes, Cindy (John) Stanley, David (Regina) Kittrell, Don (Judy) Oakes, Sherry (Greg) Petershiem. Grandkids: Allyson, Brandon, Bryson, Chase, Drew, Elisabeth, Jackson, Josh, Katie, Paige and 12 great grandkids.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 1, from 2-5 pm at Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary. Burial service will be Friday Dec. 2 at 12 PM. Procession at 11:15 from Jensen’s Sierra vista to Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
