DANNY L. WILLIAMS, SGM, USA (RET)
March 24, 1940 – May 31, 2024
Danny L. Williams was born March 24, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Thelma Johnson. He went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother Thelma Johnson, stepfather Clarence Johnson, foster parents Arthur and Charlotte Miller, brother David Williams, sister Pauline Smith, and foster brother Tex Miller. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Hendryx Williams, sister June Littlepage, daughter Kelli Mathis, and sons Kevin Lee and Michael Scott Mathis, and seven grandchildren: Kacie Mathis, Elizabeth Andrew, Brittany Vogelsang, Michael Scott Mathis, Jr, Sean Goolsby, Brine Stewart, Marissa Manchack, step-grandson Charles W. Crane, and nine great grandchildren.
Danny was a man of many talents: a salesman, contractor, soldier, author. He was exceedingly proud of his 20 years of military service, 5 years in the Infantry and 15 years in Counterintelligence. Ten of those years were spent in Mainz, Giessen, and Stuttgart, Germany. He earned the Legion of Merit (2nd award), Meritorious Service Award (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award). He describes his 15 months undercover in Germany to expose a spy ring in his authorized book Damian and Mongoose. That operation put 9 traitors in prison in five countries.
He was an active member of Sierra Vista Baptist Church. His favorite hobby for many years was clock repair. He was always eager to help a friend in need. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ on June 18, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Danny’s memory to your favorite charity.
