Cheryl Amy Mead of Whetstone, Arizona died unexpectedly at her residence in Hereford on August 28th 2020 following spinal surgery at Tucson Medical Center.
Cheryl was born to Herbert L Dewey and Martha J Ziegler on April 30th 1948 in Adrian Michigan. She grew up in Lenawee County Michigan where she attended elementary school in Morenci Michigan. Her family moved to Wauseon Ohio and she was a 1966 graduate of Wauseon High School.
She married Raymond R. Mead on December 7th 1969 in Fayette, Ohio. When he returned to the Army in 1971, she joined him in Korea where she served as a teacher's aide working with English as a Second Language elementary school students at the Seoul American School in Yongsan Korea. She spoke, read and wrote Korean. In Panama, Cheryl was active in youth sports and coached Pee Wee Soccer, Baseball and Basketball. New Jersey she was a Den Mother for a Tiger Cub Scout pack.
At Ft Huachuca she continued to be active with youth activities. After her husband's retirement she attended Cochise College where she earned two Associate Degrees, with honors, before moving on the University of Arizona where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology Magna Cum Laude in 1999. She was attending classes for her Master's Degree when her studies were cut short by a car accident in 2001. After a partial recovery she worked in the Testing Center at Cochise College and later taught Anthropology as an Associate Instructor.
She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert L. Dewey in 2001. She is survived by her Mother Martha Dewey of Wauseon Ohio, brothers Ron of Delta Ohio, Tom of Port Orange Florida, Richard of Morenci Michigan, and Tony of Pennsylvania, and sisters, Kathy of Wauseon Ohio and Karen of Morenci Michigan and numerous, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husband of fifty years, Raymond Mead of Whetstone, Arizona, Daughters Namieka of Arlington Virginia and April of Puyallup Washington, Sons Christopher of Hereford Arizona, and William of Tucson Arizona; and five grandsons and three granddaughters.
Cheryl was an Organ Donor and no funerals service was held. A private viewing for the immediate family was held on September 9th, 2020.
