Our dear sister Carmen Megeath, born September 1, 1945, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on December 6, 2023.
Carmen was a long time resident of Bisbee, Arizona arriving in 1972. She worked for the Cochise County Library as a library assistant for many years and was very active in the community, directing Christmas cantatas, working for Cochise Fine Arts where she helped bring in many poets for poetry festivals and other artistic events. Carmen was blessed with a beautiful voice, having graduated in voice from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also was a published poet, an accomplished pianist and composer and musicologist in classical music and opera. She was the editor and publisher of The Blue Mountain Review featuring poets of Cochise County, Arizona and a published poet in the Mirage, a literary and arts magazine and The Mule 2001-2004. Carmen was an avid reader, especially in history. She had an amazing memory for facts and details, making her a wonderful conversationalist. Carmen was blessed with many friends over the course of her many years in Bisbee. As a young woman, traveling with Peter Young, she lived in Toledo, Spain and in Villa de Etla, Oaxaca.
Carmen was preceded in death by her father, Myron Van Allen Megeath, and mother, Carmen Amanda Megeath.
She is survived by her longtime companion Alex Hay; her sisters Mary Alice Budge (Ken), Alexis Megeath Banick (Steve); her brothers Michael Megeath (Vanessa), Mark Megeath (Cari), and David Megeath (Paula) and many nieces and nephews.
