Albert Clarence Boeckmann, 92, passed away in his sleep on September 25, 2018.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Lu, who entered heaven in 2010. His sister, Roseanne Brucks to whom he remained close died in 2015. He is survived by three children, Alan Boeckmann (Lisa), Marilyn Boeckmann and Lori Chavez (David). In addition, he was so proud of his nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He also had many nieces and nephews who often thought of him as their very special Uncle Al.
Albert was born on January 21, 1926 to Albert and Nellie Boeckmann in Bisbee, Arizona. For most of his youth, they lived in the Sulfur Springs Valley moving later to Warren. He graduated from Bisbee High School in 1943 and enlisted in the US Navy.
As a radioman aboard the USS Montrose, a navy troop transport, he participated in multiple campaigns to liberate South Pacific islands from Japanese control. After his navy service, he returned to Bisbee and was hired by Phelps Dodge (PD).
While waiting for an opening in the Electric Shop, he served as a grocery stock boy in the PD Mercantile store in Warren. During a work break, he went across the street to the Warren Drug Store to order a Coca-Cola at the soda fountain. The soda “jerk” immediately caught his eye and after a brief courtship and romance, he married Mary Lu Hendricks.
Albert retired after two successful careers, as an electrician foreman for PD and as an electronics technician at Fort Huachuca. After living in Bisbee for many years they moved to Sierra Vista.
Memorial service will be held at Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary, 5515 S. Hwy 92 on October 9, 2018 at 10:30am and burial at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1300 S Buffalo Soldier Trail at 12:00 noon.
