Captain Adolph Schmid

10/07/1932 - 01/11/2024

Captain Adolph Schmid, USMC, age 91, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, went to be with his Lord on January 11, 2024, after years of declining health due to Alheimer's.

Adolph (Smitty) was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, on October 7, 1932, and moved to Groton, Connecticut, attending Robert E. Fitch High School, where he was in the Marine Corps Reserve. After graduation he was called to active duty in 1950 and served aboard the USS Oriskany, served in the Korean War, Vietnam twice, Guantanamo Bay, Okinawa, and Japan. Stateside duty stations included Cherry Point, North Carolina, El Toro and Camp Pendleton, California, Hawaii, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He retired in Arizona after serving his country faithfully for 26 years. He then worked at the Army Intelligence School at Fort Huachuca as instructor/writer/editor for 14 years, having served the government for 40 years.

Smitty met his wife, Dorrene (Lori), while attending a class at the Army Intelligence School at Fort Holabird, Maryland. Lori was in the Women's Army Corps stationed there. They married in 1957 and spent almost 68 years together. They were blessed with two loving daughters. In retirement Smitty and Lori traveled the world seeing 82 countries and time-sharing in the beautiful USA. He LOVED fishing at the ponds on Post; he was caught fishing while it was snowing by a post newspaper photographer who published the photo. He and two fishing buddies enjoyed taking their boat to Mexico for deep sea fishing and bringing back BIG fish!!

He is survived by his wife, Dorrene, daughters Dawn Franco (Jesse) and Debra Kant (Paul), and a cousin, Carol Stewart.
