June Nye Obituary

June Angeline Nye, 84

11/6/1939 – 4/12/2024

June Nye, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer.

June was born November 6, 1939 to James and Della (Stall) McGoldrick in South Haven, Michigan and spent most of her life in Fennville, Michigan.  She was a 1957 graduate of South Haven High School.  She married Kenneth Perkins on November 16, 1957 and they raised three children; Cynthia, Kevin, and Carla.  June worked many years at Citizens Bank followed by many years at Bohn Aluminum, where she retired in 1994.  Following divorce in 1997, June became a “snowbird” visiting Florida each winter.  She loved Florida for the sunny weather, lush greenery, beautiful flowers, and citrus fruits.

In 2000, June reconnected with a grade school friend James (Jim) Nye.  The two of them hit it off and were married March 17, 2005.  They built a home in Huachuca City, Arizona where they have resided together since 2008.  Together Jim and June drove back and forth each spring and fall to spend the summer in Fennville at June’s family farm.

June lived to garden!  She looked forward to every summer to tend to her flowers and grow fruits and vegetables to take back to Arizona to enjoy over the winter months.  Her other love was baking and cooking for her family and friends.  She loved to keep everyone fed and loved hosting gatherings, especially weekly Sunday dinners with her family.  She loved her family deeply and unconditionally without wavering.  She had a wealth of knowledge when it came to flowers, birds, gardening, canning, and baking.  She had a love of bluegrass music and even did clog dancing for several years.

June was a lifelong member of Casco United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member and youth leader for many years.  In Arizona she was a loyal volunteer and Board Member for Peach’s Pantry, an organization which provides food for the weekend to economically disadvantaged school children.  She was one of the original members, passionate about serving for the past ten years.

June is survived by her husband of 19 years, James (Jim) Nye; her children, Cynthia Niles; Kevin (Kara) Perkins; and Carla (Neal Johnson) Cook; her grandchildren Angela (Mike) Hopp and Justin (Wenona Campbell) Lintner; sister Aileen (Bill) Redeker; niece Sarah (Lary) Jackson and nephew David (Caroline) Redeker.  She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Lonny Niles.

The family gives special thanks to the staff of Casa de la Paz Hospice for taking extra special care of her these last few months.

Per June’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no memorial service will be held.  Memorial contributions may be donated in her honor to Peach’s Pantry of Sierra Vista, Arizona or to Casco United Methodist Church of South Haven, Michigan.
